DCGI calls out WHO for ‘Prematurely’ blaming Maiden Pharma for cough syrup linked deaths in Gambia

Calling out the World Health Organisation (WHO) for “prematurely” blaming an Indian company for the deaths without verification, India’s drug regulator claimed that the samples of Maiden Pharma’s cough syrups suspected of being linked to deaths of children in Gambia were not contaminated with diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol (EG), and have been found to be of standard quality.

In wake of this confirmation given by the Drug Controller General of Indian (DCGI), Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd on Friday said that it will seek clearance to re-open its factory as the Indian government laboratory found nothing wrong in samples taken from syrups namely Promethazine Oral Solution BP, KOFEXMALIN Baby Cough Syrup, MaKOFF Baby Cough syrup and MaGrip n Cold Syrup.

Harvard bioengineers invented the first “Vagina-on-a-Chip”

Researchers at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University have created a new Organ Chip that replicates the human vaginal tissue microenvironment including its microbiome in vitro. Composed of human vaginal epithelium and underlying connective tissue cells, the Vagina Chip replicates many of the physiological features of the vagina and can be inoculated with different strains of bacteria to study their effects on the organ’s health. The chip is described in a new paper published in Microbiome.
