Maternity leave for PG resident doctors, medicos disappointed with NMC’s Cryptic Notice

The recent National Medical Commission (NMC) notice, in which the PG Medical Education Board of the Commission has addressed the issue of maternity leave for the postgraduate medical students, has not gone well with the doctors, who are upset with the fact that the matter remains unsolved as before.

In the concerned notice, the NMC PG Board stated that the matter regarding grant of maternity leave to PG medical students shall be regulated as per respective State Government rules.

Despite NMC order, private medical colleges in Punjab & Haryana charging internship fees from FMGs

Even though the National Medical Commission (NMC) has strictly forbidden the medical colleges from collecting internship fees from the Foreign Medical Graduates, several private colleges in Punjab and Haryana are not following this rule.Terming it as miscellaneous fees, such institutes are allegedly charging Rs 1-2 lakh from the students. Since they are not allowed to collect such fees, the colleges are also not giving any receipts for the money, an MBBS graduate from China, who belongs to Punjab and Haryana, informed Edex Live.

In Bihar, a quack allegedly conducted an illegal abortion at his clinic and fed the foetus to a dog. Police in Bihar’s Hajipur have launched a manhunt for the quack in this case.

New Research: Eating grapes can protect against UV damage to skin

Grapes consumption protects against ultraviolet (UV) damage to the skin, according to findings from a recent human study published in the scientific journal Antioxidants.

The study showed that after consuming two ¼ cups of grapes every day for two weeks, the subjects showed increased sunburn resistance. Also, subjects displaying UV resistance exhibited microbiome and metabolomic profiles indicating a correlation between the gut and skin. Polyphenols (natural components found in grapes) are thought to be responsible for these beneficial effects.
