MBBS admission racket busted in Maharashtra

A big racket which cheated students to the tune of Rs 3.30 crore under the pretext of facilitating admission to medical colleges was recently busted and the five accused, including an MBBS graduate, were arrested by the Navi Mumbai police.

The accused had cheated students from Navi Mumbai town in Thane district, neighbouring Mumbai, Gujarat and other places, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe told reporters on Wednesday.

NABH and HSSC join hands for recognition and skilling initiatives of healthcare professionals

Dr Atul Kochhar, CEO of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) and Ashish Jain, CEO of Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at recognition of HSSC certification for NABH accreditation; develop training programs for Skilling, Reskilling and Upskilling required for healthcare professionals.

The collaboration will help achieving the goal of enhancing healthcare quality in the country. The MoU was signed in the august presence of Dr Selvakumar I.A.S, Secretary, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Government of Karnataka and Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman, Healthcare Sector Skill Council.

Non-insertion of Ileostomy bag after surgery: Mysuru Hospital, gastroenterologists told to pay Rs 8 lakh compensation

Holding a Mysuru based hospital and its Gastroenterologists negligent while treating a patient suffering from Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mysuru has directed them to pay a compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the daughter of the deceased patient.

The District Consumer Court passed such an order after taking note of the fact that the treating doctor admitted that they had not inserted Ileostomy bag to the intestine after conducting surgery on the patient, who died as a result of deteriorating health condition.

University of Auckland study has identified a drug that could increase lifespan. According to the published results in the international journal Nature Ageing, the mice given alpelisib were healthier in old age, with better coordination and strength.
